Our Learning Approaches Have Evolved
As we prepare for the new academic year, we are excited to introduce our refreshed Learning Approaches at Five Acre Wood School.
Our Learning Approaches have been renamed to better reflect the way our pupils learn and the environments in which they thrive. While many of the names have changed, our commitment to providing personalised, inclusive education remains exactly the same.
The new names place greater emphasis on each learning journey, helping families, professionals and visitors better understand the different ways we support every pupil to achieve their full potential.
Alongside the new names, we are also introducing a brand new Learning Approach – E.N.G.A.G.E.
The E.N.G.A.G.E Learning Approach has been developed for pupils who are non-verbal, sensory seeking and benefit from learning that focuses on engagement, communication, sensory experiences and self-regulation. It reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring every pupil has access to an environment that best meets their individual needs.
Our Learning Approaches for the new academic year are:
- N.E.S.T (previously Early Years)
- V.I.E.W (previously Structured)
- E.N.G.A.G.E (new)
- S.E.N.S.E (previously Sensory)
- A.P.P.L.Y (previously Practical)
- F.O.C.U.S (previously Formal)
- R.E.A.C.H (previously Nurture)
- R.E.A.D.Y (previously Functional)
These approaches represent carefully planned learning environments that consider each pupil’s communication, cognition, sensory needs, curriculum, and personal development. Because every pupil is unique, every learning journey is unique too. Pupils are placed within the Learning Approach that best supports their individual needs and may move between approaches as they develop and their priorities change. By tailoring education to the individual, we create personalised learning experiences that make Five Acre Wood School a truly unique place to learn.
